When It Comes to Demand Response, Is Ferc Its Own Worst Enemy?

چکیده
A major cause for many of the problems that have afflicted wholesale electricity markets is the unrealized potential for the demand-side to be a full participant. Ironically, when Fred Schweppe first envisioned an electricity market in which prices efficiently coordinated the actions of market participants, he focused on the potential for improved efficiency in power consumption, not generation. However, restructuring of electricity markets has focused on generation. The demand-side has been mainly addressed through

CSEM WP 191 When it comes to Demand Response, is FERC its Own Worst Enemy?
The traditional approach to demand response of paying for a customer’s electricity consumption reductions relative to an administratively set baseline is currently being advocated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) as a way to foster the participation of final consumers in formal wholesale markets. Although these efforts may lead to greater participation of final consumers in tr...
متن کاملDemand Response Based Model for Optimal Decision Making for Distribution Networks
In this paper, a heuristic mathematical model for optimal decision-making of a Distribution Company (DisCo) is proposed that employs demand response (DR) programs in order to participate in a day-ahead market, taking into account elastic and inelastic load models. The proposed model is an extended responsive load modeling that is based on price elasticity and customers’ incentives in which they...
متن کاملRobust supply chain coordination modeling: A revenue management perspective
The revenue management concept and techniques are applied to model the coordination of supply chain elements. The fundamental premise of this approach is synchronization of a group of business entities consist-ing of a manufacturer and multiple suppliers to achieve an optimal supply chain capacity plans. The output of the supply chain can be various products and thus it is measured in terms of ...
متن کاملSecurity Constrained Unit Commitment in the Simultaneous Presence of Demand Response Sources and Electric Vehicles
Due to the ever-growing load, especially peak load, the increase in the capacity of plants is inevitable for the response to this growth. Peak load causes increases in customer costs and vast investments in generating and transmission parts. Therefore, restructuring in the electrical industry, competition in the electrical market and Demand Response Programs (DRPs) are of special importance in ...
متن کاملConstrained Interpolation via Cubic Hermite Splines
Introduction In industrial designing and manufacturing, it is often required to generate a smooth function approximating a given set of data which preserves certain shape properties of the data such as positivity, monotonicity, or convexity, that is, a smooth shape preserving approximation. It is assumed here that the data is sufficiently accurate to warrant interpolation, rather than least ...
